OCR is not 100% accurate. Results depend on image quality, fonts, language and handwriting — please review the text before using it.
How to extract Hindi text from an image
- Add a JPG, PNG, WebP or screenshot of the Hindi text (drag and drop, browse, or paste).
- Check that Hindi (हिन्दी) is selected as the OCR language.
- Choose Extract text. The first run downloads about 1.4 MB of Hindi language data plus the OCR engine.
- Correct any mistakes in the editor, then copy the text or download it as a UTF-8 .txt file.
Tips for accurate Devanagari OCR
- Keep the shirorekha visible. Don’t crop through the headline that joins the letters; leave a little space above each line.
- Use enough resolution. Vowel signs (मात्रा) and conjuncts such as क्ष, त्र and ज्ञ need sharp detail — zoom in before taking a screenshot.
- Prefer printed text. Newspaper, book and typed text works far better than handwriting.
- Mixed Hindi and English? Run the image with Hindi first. If the English words come out wrong, run it again with English and combine the parts you need.
- Marathi or Sanskrit-style text also uses Devanagari — for Marathi, choose Marathi in the menu.
You get Unicode Hindi text
The result is standard Unicode Devanagari, so it pastes correctly into Word, Google Docs, WhatsApp, email and websites without any font conversion. Older software that depends on legacy non-Unicode Hindi fonts (such as Kruti Dev) will not display Unicode text correctly without converting it first.
Hindi OCR questions
Does it support handwritten Hindi?
Not reliably. The Hindi model is trained on printed text; neat handwriting may partly work, but expect many errors.
Is my Hindi document uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is processed in your browser. Only the OCR engine and the Hindi language file are downloaded from the jsDelivr CDN.
Can I convert a Hindi PDF?
Export or screenshot each PDF page as an image (PNG or JPG) first, then add the images here — up to 10 at a time.
Why are some matras or conjuncts wrong?
Small or blurry text makes vowel signs and conjunct letters hard to tell apart. Use a sharper, larger image and try Enhance image.
